For the first time, we involved our staff in the decision for the receiving institutions. All employees were allowed to submit their suggestions and we were absolutely thrilled by the large number of suggestions on the one hand and by the personal commitment that is often associated with them on the other.

Our five donation recipients have one thing in common – they are all committed to the next generation. From children’s hospice and health in Hamburg to the promotion of reading in Munich, child welfare in Africa and school education in crisis areas – we divided our donation amount by five this year.

Our colleague Lela drew our attention to the association Visions for Children e. V.:
“The people of Hamburg are passionate about what they are doing here! I have already listened to panel talks by founders and volunteers. I find the approach of creating more educational opportunities or space for education and thus ensuring educational opportunities for disadvantaged children in the long term super sustainable and exciting,” wrote Lela Habteab, Senior AdTech Consultant.

Our colleague Robin has been an active member of the African Child e.V. association since its foundation and has also been part of the board since 2019:
“We are currently supporting over 20 former street children in Uganda on their way to adult life and beyond. We provide them with school, vocational or academic training and accompany them on their way to a better future. Unfortunately, due to legal requirements of the Ugandan government, we had to close our children’s home in 2022. Since then, the children and young people have been accommodated in boarding schools, where they can continue their education. Despite these changes, we continue to support them, finance their education and give them the chance for a self-determined and better life,” said Robin Blitzner, Senior Manager People & Culture, submitting his donation proposal.

Our colleague Muriel shared a very personal story with us as a plea for the Friends of the UKE for Children with Dementia e.V.:
“For me, this association is a project close to my heart, as my grandparents’ dementia was very present in our family. I can hardly imagine how stressful this must be for affected children as well as their parents and families! This foundation is not only committed to research into dementia in children, but also provides direct help to the affected families – a commitment that I appreciate very much,” says Muriel Kuite, Trainee Online Marketing.
